1909: Mary White Ovington organizes a National Conference on the Negro.
1910: The National Conference on the Negro met in New York for a second
time to adopt an organizational name and structure. The organizational name
was to become The National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP)
1916: From the 1916 Board Member Minutes:
"The masses of colored people know nothing of the association..."
"They do not speak our language."
1935: The NAACP elects the first Black board Chairman
